49ers: Message To Cam Newton, Ahmad Brooks Is Coming

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks isn’t a stranger when it comes to facing MVP Cam Newton, in fact, he’s sending a message to Cam loud and clear “He’s Coming.”

Recently, on Niners Live, we’ve discussed linebacker Ahmad Brooks having a throwback year? Or close to it? Brooks responded well and didn’t disappoint in the season opener against the L.A. Rams.

Brooks accounted for three tackles, one assist, played stout against the run and registered a sack while applying relentless pressure on Rams quarterback Case Keenum who only threw for just 130 yards with two interceptions.

Updated Statistics Career recap: Brooks heading into his 10th season, 8th with the 49ers has played 118 games starting 84 of those contest. Also, has totaled 48.5 sacks, 252 tackles, 11 forced fumbles, 26 passes defended with three interceptions returning one for a touchdown.

Snap count distribution: Brooks played a total of 40 snaps, 18 in the pass rush, 15 in defending the rush and seven in coverage. Grading out at 72 percent overall per profootballfocus.com ( paid subscription required).

49ers Defensive coordinator Jim O’Neil likes to flip-flop Brooks from one side to the other, being that he’s the team’s most experienced pass rusher.

And, when that happens he’ll be line up against right tackle Mike Remmers of the Panthers who Pro Football Focus had graded as 35.0 overall which is a poor rating.

Head Coach Chip Kelly on Ahmad Brooks:

The history between Ahmad Brooks and Cam Newton:

In 2013, the NFC Divisional Playoffs the 49ers beat the Panthers 23-10, and Brooks registered six tackles, five solo and two and a half sacks against Newton. Via ESPN.com.

Brooks is a savvy veteran that’s back in great shape and highly motivated to wreak some havoc while being a menace/disruptive to Cam Newton.

Bouns Niner News: Reinforcements are coming? Per Matt Maiocco of CSN BAYAREA this week the overall consensus is Glenn Dorsey will be activated to the 46 man active roster.

“Coach Azz (defensive line coach Jerry Azzinaro) and the trainers thought an extra week would be better for him,” Kelly said. “So hopefully we’ll get him out here this week.”

“He’s kind of on a pitch count, so to speak, just because he’s coming off of the injury,” Kelly said. “So we’re hopeful that we’ll have him this week.”
