Why the 49ers signed Safety Jacquiski Tartt to a new Contract Extension

The San Francisco 49ers have signed safety Jaquiski Tartt to a two-year contract extension through the 2020 season.

Looking at Tartt’s career production

Jacquiski Tartt (SS)-  Mr. Aka the “Missile” with extreme violence; Tartt is 6’1 221 lbs. In his three seasons, he has appeared in 39 games, starting 22 of those contests while accounting for 167 combined tackles, nine passes defended, three and a half sacks, one forced fumbles and two interceptions (one coming in 2017).

Niners Live back on October 17, 2017, didn’t mince words when we discussed: Why Jacquiski Tartt is the Most Improved Player on Defense. Per Pro Football Focus, Tartt received honorable mention in the first quarter 2017 All-Pro team. What Tartt brings to the table needs no re-introduction but if you need a reference check, see article above.

Tartt’s PFF grade: 85.8 overall (4th highest on the team), coverage 86.4, run defense 73.7 with 595 total snaps played on defense in 2017.

Bottom line:

This is a smart move by the 49ers wrapping up one of their core players who’s ascending and on the verge of being a pro bowl caliber player. The 49ers don’t invest any long-term years or money with this extension. If Tartt can maintain good health in 2018, look out NFL.

Contract details:

Tartt’s two-year extension is worth $13M with the potential to earn up to $15M ( according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network).
