The San Francisco 49ers made fullback Kyle Juszczyk the 21 million dollar man over four years. Now, part of the million dollar question is whether he’ll live up to his pricey contract. Follow Niners Live as we “Go Deep” with our Fearless Predictions: Why Kyle Juszczyk will have 1k yards from scrimmage.
Kyle Shanahan’s new offensive weapon, Kyle Juszczyk, plays fullback, a position that is vanishing from the league. Juszczyk, nicknamed the Juice, will be attacking opposing defenses from a wide array of positions on offense. Niners Live predicts he will have 1,000 all-purpose yards in Shanahan’s offense.
Niners live recently discussed the free agent signing of Kyle Juszczyk: Will Kyle Shanahan Unleash the Beast on the NFC WEST?
The 49ers made him the highest paid fullback in the league. However, general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan did so with a definite plan to maximize the return on their financial investment. They view him not as a regular fullback, but as an “offensive weapon” who will also play H-back, tight end, slot, and short yardage back.
At a free agent press conference at the team’s headquarters Lynch said, “He’s an ‘OW. If you see ‘OW,’ that stands for ‘offensive weapon’. We see an offensive weapon that Kyle Shanahan is thrilled to be able to use in a number of different capacities” (via the team’s website).
Making the case for 1k combined yards from scrimmage:
Shanahan is an innovative offensive mind who constantly finds ways to put his players in position to make plays. Juszczyk, aka the Juice, will cause mismatches and will be a focal point of the 49ers offense in 2017. Niners Live’s fearless prediction is that he will have an estimated 700 yards receiving and 300 rushing with 10 total touchdowns combined. Think it’s a reach, do you? Well, go Fearless or Go Home! Because this is Niners Live!
This prediction was made by looking at his 2016 statistics versus his playing time: 37 receptions for 266 yards and five rushes for 22 yards. He started seven games and played in only 41 percent of the Baltimore Ravens offensive snaps (Pro Football Reference).
For the 49ers, he will play at least 80 percent of the offensive snaps and should start every game, if healthy. Our prediction takes into account increased playing time, touches and playing in an offense designed to capitalize on his strengths. Having over 1,000 yards in total offense can be very achievable, especially with the offensive wizard called Shanahan who will be calling his own plays. After the 2017 season is all said and done, Juice could make the fullback position a celebrated one, rather than one that many pundits say is basically extinct in the NFL.
When was the last time a fullback put up big numbers like that? The last one who registered over 1,000 yards in total offense was Tampa Bay Buccaneers Mike Alstott (242 rushes for 949 yards, 27 receptions for 239 yards for a total of 1,188 yards) in the 1999 season.
Juice is going from a supporting role to a leading man role with the 49ers, and Niners live believes he is going to put up big numbers in the red and gold. Not only will he rack up over 1,000 yards, but he will also make the Pro Bowl.
The NFL is now a hybrid league where players play multiple positions based on how coaching staffs want to attack their opposition. Juice understands this, and is eager to produce and help the red and gold return to their winning tradition.
“The NFL is a hybrid league,” Juszczyk said in an interview via the team’s website as aforementioned. “You’ve got safeties playing linebacker. You’ve got linebackers playing defensive end. On offense, you’ve got tight ends playing wide receiver. I think being multi-dimensional in today’s league is really an asset. I think it’s something I can help bring to this team. Hopefully, that’s an asset that leads to wins.”
The 49ers made fullback Kyle Juszczyk the 21 million dollar man over four years. Will he be the first to go over a 1k yards since Mike Alstott? To be continued……..
