49ers: Why Carlos Hyde will Make the Naysayers put some Respect on his Name

Niners Live comes from a different perspective yet again, and brings you: Why Carlos Hyde will Make the Naysayers put some Respect on his Name in 2017.

In the NFL offseason rumors swirled about the next possible roster transaction each of the 32 teams could make. When it’s that time of the year and you were a 2-14 team in 2016, what do you get? You guessed it, “Rumors”.

Enter the rumor that surfaced on Bleacher Report recently which stated the 49ers decision makers were ready to move on from two-year starter Carlos Hyde, 6’0 235 lbs., by drafting LSU running back Leonard Fournette, 6’1 230 lbs. with the second overall pick in the upcoming draft.

On a side note: Niners Live brought you: The Curveball Report: Great Player, Wrong Team featuring: “Leonard Fournette.”

Trying to live up to Expectations:

Hyde has been touted as the next workhorse 49ers running back after replacing the franchise’s leading rusher, Frank “The Inconvenient Truth” Gore, heading into the 2015 season. But he has yet to meet those expectations because of injuries. However, when healthy, he is one of the best and most punishing rushers in the league. He has a rare blend of power, speed, agility and passion for inflicting his will on opposing tacklers. He ended the 2016 season 12 yards shy of 1,000 yards with 988 after sustaining a sprained MCL in his left knee. To his defense, the play in which he was injured was a low hit to his knee and could have caused serious ligament damage.

With this unfulfilled potential, GM John Lynch and Shanahan must be curious to see what Hyde can do in an NFL proven rushing scheme while being coached by offensive gurus in Shanahan and running back coach Bobby Turner.

Shanahan will be calling plays this season for the 49ers, and after watching game film he is intrigued by Hyde and is eager to see what growth Carlos can make in his offense.

“I don’t think he’s a finished product. I think there’s a lot more to his game and I look forward to us helping him bring that out. Right now, I see Carlos being our back,” said Shanahan to reporters at the NFL combine.

Lynch was questioned this week at the team’s headquarters about the speculations swirling, and had the following assessment.

“I think as a player, one of the great things about this league and frankly, what drove me to get back into it is that you’re always proving yourself. Particularly when there is a new regime. I hope Carlos feels that way, but I also can tell you that we’re really high on him and what he might be able to do in this offense. We think he can be a highly productive player, but we’re eager to see,” stated Lynch.

Why Hyde will make the naysayers put some respect on his name:

In four NFL seasons he has played in 34 out of a possible 48 contests. He has gained 1,791 yards with 415 attempts for an average of 4.3 yards and had thirteen rushing touchdowns. In the passing game, he has 50 receptions for 284 yards and three touchdowns. He did this in offensive schemes that made it obvious when he was getting the ball. His accomplishments also came with the lack of a fullback/personal protector in 2016 (which Niners Live discuss many moons ago), as well as the lack of a potent passing attack, which led to teams keying in on Hyde by constantly putting eight defenders in the box.  Hyde, has been the lone ranger when it comes to Mr. (OW) offensive weapon for opposing defenses to key/lock in and focus on over the past two seasons, to say the least.

However, with the addition of head coach Kyle Shanahan’s offense, Niners Live believes Hyde is the best option for the 49ers heading into the 2017 season and is poised to make the naysayers put some respect on his name….. Interesting to note: Fearless Predictions: Why Kyle Juszczyk Will Have 1k Yards From Scrimmage.

In Closing:

The 49ers should ride out with Carlos Hyde in 2017 because he provides the best solution in their running back equation. He still has untapped potential. Drafting a running back in the first round would be a luxury pick and essentially a wasted one since the team has more pressing needs at other positions. The draft is deep in runners, and quality players can be found in later rounds. The 49ers currently have five running backs, including Hyde, on the roster and fullbacks who will be utilized as runners, as well (via the team’s website). There’s no need to take a runner with a high draft pick. The final reason Hyde should remain the starter is that he is highly motivated to silence his doubters and prove to the 49ers brass, the fans, his teammates and opponents that he can maximize his talents and be a Pro Bowl/All-Pro caliber player. In Shanahan’s offense, if he plays a full season, the sky is the limit for number 28.

“For me, it’s just go out and be the best. Go out and just give it my all. With the injuries and stuff, I mean that stuff sucks and all, but just go out there, put good film out there and give it a go,” said Hyde in a recent interview.

As always, keep your eyes wide open, 49er fans. Niners Live will be watching with you. #eyeswideopen and often imitated but never duplicated… Go Niners.
