At 6′ 4″ and 267 lbs, McDonald is a hybrid tight end; that can run and block.

Is Vance McDonald, Blaine Gabbert’s favorite target?

Performance Recap: McDonald contributed to the 49ers winning over the Denver Broncos 31 to 24, catching three passes for 38 yards and averaged 12.7 yards a catch.

Important to note: McDonald has been targeted by Gabbert in the first two preseason games six times, catching five of those targets for a combined total of 92 yards while averaging 19.85 yards a catch and one touchdown in two-quarters of action. Via ESPN.com.

McDonald has been targeted the most within the first two preseason games than any other offensive player on the 49ers.

In closing, McDonald is ascending in the right direction, and Blaine Gabbert has been a big reason for that dating back towards the second half of last season.

There’s chemistry without question between Gabbert and McDonald brewing. However, the two must continue to build on last year’s momentum and allowing it carry over into the 2016 season.
